Study abroad scholarships for Indian students

A scholarship is worth investigating when its rules match your nationality, course, institution and intake. Check those conditions first, then work out what it actually pays for and what remains unfunded.

Check the opportunity before writing an application

Record the provider's official page and the exact award cycle. Check nationality or residence, study level, subject, participating institution and any separate application requirement. Mark a condition as unknown when the source does not answer it.

Keep your academic admission and scholarship checks separate. A course offer does not itself confirm an award, and an interesting award may apply to only part of your shortlist.

  • Applicable intake, institution, degree level and subject.
  • Eligibility conditions and evidence needed.
  • Application deadline and the time zone if provided.
  • Funding coverage, payment timing and any uncovered costs.

Read what the funding covers

Separate tuition support from living-cost support, travel or other benefits. Do not label an award fully funded unless the provider defines its coverage and the remaining costs are understood.

For a planning budget, subtract only confirmed funding that applies to the cost you are estimating. Keep possible awards in a separate scenario. If the amount, eligibility or payment date is unpublished, leave it unresolved.

Start with the UK funding guides

The British Council's funding directory is a starting point for UK scholarship research. Our UK guide gives you a comparison process, and the GREAT guide walks through one published tuition-support example. These public guides are not a complete scholarship catalog or a personal eligibility decision.
