Germany vs UK for a master's: compare the plans, costs and gaps

There is no useful country winner without a program and a personal budget. Compare two real courses using the same categories, and keep missing information visible instead of treating it as a favourable assumption.

Use the same questions for both programs

The table is a research worksheet, not a statement that every German or UK course follows the same model. Fill it with details from the two institutions you are considering.

Compare totals with matching assumptions

For each course, calculate: tuition + living costs for the full duration + required fees + travel and setup costs − confirmed funding. Use a separate line for a contingency amount you choose. Do not subtract a scholarship you have only applied for.

Record both the total budget and the money needed before arrival. Do not add a proof-of-funds balance twice if it is the same money already allocated to living costs; instead, record when that money must be available and what evidence is required.

  • Use the same exchange-rate date for both options.
  • Use actual course lengths, not a standard country assumption.
  • Show any missing cost as unknown.
  • Keep possible future earnings outside the confirmed funding total.

A worked example with deliberately incomplete costs

Suppose you have two offers. Course A has confirmed fees but no housing estimate. Course B has a complete budget, but depends on an undecided scholarship. Neither has a complete affordability case. The next actions are different: obtain a realistic housing quote for A, and calculate B without the award.

Once those gaps are resolved, compare the remaining cost alongside academic fit and timing. A lower advertised tuition price alone cannot settle the decision. This example uses no market prices and does not recommend a loan or a particular financial product.

Write a decision you can revisit

For your leading option, record why it currently fits, the largest unresolved condition and the alternative you would choose if that condition fails. Add a review date tied to an actual deadline or expected answer.

AbroadQ's sample audit shows how route reasoning and evidence gaps can be presented together. Your personal plan still needs the exact program details and up-to-date official checks.
